The First Amendment

“This image shows my experience practicing the First Amendment. Too many people in America would suffer harsh consequences standing up for their own civil rights.

I know someone stood up for my civil rights and I feel the need to protect future generations. Peacefully protesting put me at risk from voting in the 2020 election even though what I did was entirely legal and I am a first generation born American citizen.“

Even though Astrid was arrested for peacefully exercising her civil rights in support of Black Lives Matters, her charges were dropped due to the fact that she was practicing the First Amendment as an American. She was detained for over 6 hours without a call, food, water, bathroom privileges, and simply the answer to the question “where am I?”. She stood strong for those that can’t protest because they would suffer harsher consequences than being detained for 6 hours.

“I have my own civil rights which is why I am fearless but I speak out for those who can’t and will continue to vote for them too.” - Astrid Hernandez

Astrid Hernandez has an expansive experience with street marketing.

In fall 2020 her and graphic designer, Howsem Huang, collaborated on a campaign to inform San Francisco neighbors who shared their local polling location in the Potrero Hill District.

“Directed by Astrid Hernandez, she lead students at California College of the Arts to properly share 6 different postcards that inform registered citizens that the CCA campus in San Francisco, California is a polling location.”
